2. Setting up FTP server and connecting See online demo
The picture below is the Site Manager window. In order to connect, you need to create settings for your FTP server. This may be done by clicking on the first icon in the Site Manager window (or by clicking the "New FTP" icon in the toolbar).
"Add New FTP Site" dialog box allows you to enter the settings for a FTP server. Important fields are:
- remote host address (domain or IP) - usually ftp.your-host.com or www.your-host.com, but it can vary
- username and password - If the FTP server is not anonymous you should have known your user name and password in advance.
If the FTP server is not anonymous (requires users to authorize themselves) you should also specify your username and password. This may be done by clicking on the "More settings" button. The following dialog box will appear:
Click the "Password" tab and enter Username and Password into appropriate text boxes.
You can also enter other optional information about the site.
Hit the "OK" button to save your username and password. Click on the "Finish" button to close the "Add New FTP Site" dialog box.
Now that the settings for a FTP server have been added the FTP server icon appears in the listing and you are ready to connect. Double click the FTP server icon you have just created. My FTP Places will attempt to make the connection.
My FTP Places now connects to the FTP server. The steps it goes through will be displayed in the dialog box shown below:
If there is a problem connecting, My FTP Places may display messages that provide some clue as to what is going wrong.
My FTP Places has now connected to the server. Folders and files on the FTP server will be shown in the listing window.
